Characterization of honeys produced by sympatric species of Afrotropical stingless bees (Hymenoptera, Meliponini)

چکیده
• Bee species, not the two harvesting methods, influenced variation in honey properties. The honeys exhibited antiradical activity, likely derived from phytochemical. Some quality parameters deviated set limits for Apis mellifera honey. We investigated effect of bee species identity and methods on chemical composition activity 53 samples, produced by six stingless western Kenya (Kakamega forest). Our results illustrate that none assayed significantly varied between samples harvested “punching holes” (n = 25) “squeezing” 28) methods. By contrast, drove significant differences parameters. Positive correlations phytochemicals (phenols flavonoids) were observed, Liotrigona sp. highest amounts phenols (214 mg GAE/100 g), flavonoids (73.0 QE/100 g) (76.2%). physicochemical analyses confirm need to establish separate standards moisture, free acidity, invertase, electrical conductivity, HMF, as these diverged

Recruitment communication in stingless bees (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponini)
The stingless bees (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Meliponini) have evolved sophisticated communication systems that allow foragers to recruit nestmates to good resources. Over the past 50 years, a growing body of research has shown that foragers can communicate three-dimensional resource location, uncovered several potential communication mechanisms, and demonstrated new information transfer mechanisms....

متن کاملHygienic behavior in the stingless bees Melipona beecheii and Scaptotrigona pectoralis (Hymenoptera: Meliponini).
Hygienic behavior, a trait that may confer resistance to brood diseases in the honey bee Apis mellifera, was studied in two species of stingless bees in Mexico. Eight colonies each of Melipona beecheii and Scaptotrigona pectoralis were tested for hygienic behavior, the removal of dead or diseased brood, by freeze killing a comb of sealed cells containing pupae. Both species detected and removed...
متن کاملStingless bees ( Hymenoptera , Meliponini ) feeding on stinkhorn spores ( Fungi , Phallales ) : robbery or dispersal ? 1
Records about stingless bee-fungi interaction are very rare. In Brazilian Amazonia, workers of Trigona crassipes (Fabricius, 1793) and Trigona fulviventris Guerin, 1835 visiting two stinkhorn species, Diclyophora sp. and Phallus sp., respectively, were observed. The workers licked the fungi gleba, a mucilaginous mass of spores covering the pi leum. Neither gleba residue nor spores were found on...
متن کاملElectroantennography in the study of two stingless bee species (Hymenoptera: Meliponini).
The first recorded electroantennographic preliminary studies on stingless bees have been performed using two species of Frieseomelitta from Brazil. Experiments with F. silvestrii and F. varia showed that antennae respond to hexane extracts of heads and abdomens of both species and posterior tibia of F. silvestrii (which carry plant resin), as well as to the pure compounds 2-heptanol and 2-nonan...
